There are a number of top destinations for a holiday in the sun. However, little can beat all the city of Orlando has to offer. With theme parks, shopping malls, golf courses, museums and more, any visitors to the city will be spoilt for choice.
Holidays in the Sun
Especially for those living in less balmy climates, little can surpass a holiday spent in the sunshine. Fortunately the world is dotted with destinations offering top vacation opportunities in warm temperatures, ranging from the active to the luxurious.
As such, there is a holiday in the sun to suit everyone. Families can relax on the beaches of the Caribbean whilst walking holidays in Spain are an ideal choice for fans of activity breaks. The world is also dotted with many fantastic cities offering visitors a taste of urban life in more tropical climes.
A Holiday Hotspot in Florida
A world renowned destination, the city of Orlando is one of the most visited places in the world for a holiday. Found in inland central Florida, it is also a top centre for industry, technology and research, with hundreds of international companies setting up facilities in the area. However, the most vital part of its economy and what it remains most famous for are its leisure attractions, with 51 million US and foreign tourists visiting each year to sample and enjoy all that is on offer in the city.
The City of Theme Parks
Orlando is often nicknamed the ‘Theme Park Capital of the World’ for the amount of top notch theme parks it boasts. Here visitors can ride rollercoasters, eat at themed restaurants and stay in hotels within the parks themselves. Of these, Walt Disney World Resort is the most famous and also the largest. With four ‘kingdoms’, two water parks and many other recreational venues for visitors to experience, it is like a city in itself and tourists can find everything they want within the park’s boundaries.
Other major amusement parks include Universal Studios and SeaWorld. Universal Studios in particular is a popular choice. The second largest park after Disney, it has most recently drawn crowds for its Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the newest of its themed areas and based around the popular series of JK Rowling books.
Beyond the Parks
While it may be most famous for its theme parks, there is a lot more to see in the city. Animal and nature lovers can spend time at Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens, or alternatively at the botanical garden and bird sanctuary Bok Tower Gardens.
For a more cultural experience, the city also has a number of museums and galleries. This ranges from the Science Centre to historical centres such as the Wells’ Built Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Vietnam War Museum and the Orange County Regional History Center.
Leisure is also to be found in the several golf courses located around the city and in the large malls that offer the best in another top American pastime: shopping!
Orlando is one of the world’s top holiday destinations. Set in beautiful Florida sunshine, visitors are offered an array of attractions to suit any number of preferences, making the city a one stop shop for any tourist.
