It is with some sadness that I tell you Universal Studios Orlando Jaws ride will be closing forever on Jan. 2nd, 2012. I guess it’s another one of those rides that is so old that the current young people just can’t relate to it.
When the Jaws ride first opened years ago it was one of the most high tech rides around. However pushing a giant robotic shark through the water was very demanding and it had frequent break downs at first.
But over time they got it right and the ride was glitch free most of the time. Jaws told the story of a giant great white shark terrorizing a small New England seaside town. It was a hit movie that had several sequels.
I have rode the ride many times and it was always fun. For those who have never ridden it, it has great surprises and frights since you don’t know what is going to happen next.
You get a little wet from the water spray but not too much. I’m always surprised at how hot that flame is during the ride when the shark breaks those gas lines and flames shoot out toward you. That heat is hot!
They actually use several different robotic sharks in the ride that is suppose to be the same one. I think they have 3 or more for the different scenes in the ride.
For those who love the Universal Studios Jaws ride the closing will be sad. But that’s the way theme parks are, they need to get rid of older ones and put in newer rides to keep up with the times and taste of the younger crowd.
So if you’ve never gone on the Jaws ride I hope you go and check it out this month, Dec. It’s fun and has a few surprises and frights. For those who have been on it and like it, take one more ride on it this month and say goodbye.
