Christmas and lights go hand in hand, and if you want to enhance your holiday light experience, there’s no better place in the world to visit than Walt Disney World in Orlando on the holidays.
The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights for 2011 is an amazing display of music and twinkling lights. While many such light exhibits boast of having thousands of lights, this one has millions!
Disney World’s Spectacle of Dancing Lights has an interesting history. It began in Arkansas with an all-American family, the Osbornes, who decided to add some holiday magic to their community by decorating their home with numerous lights.
More lights were added every year, until it grew to enormous proportions. Finally, the Osborne family made the decision to spread the Christmas spirit with the world, and Disney agreed to help.
Disney added even more lights, and now there are more than ten miles of multi-colored rope lights, 1500 dimmer switches, 30 miles of extension cords, and 800,000 watts of electricity!
There’s no way to fully comprehend this spectacular display without seeing it for yourself. Whole buildings are covered in lights, and there are numerous hidden Mickeys for guests to find.
You’ll see carousels, Santas, angels, Christmas trees, tin soldiers, wreaths, reindeer, and more comprised of lights. About every half hour, the lights dance in time to popular Christmas songs, including tunes by Barbara Streisand and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra . You might even be surprised by a dusting of snow!
The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights is featured at Disney’s Hollywood Studios park, beginning on November 10. The lights come on at sundown and are turned off at midnight. The show continues through January 3, 2012. There’s no extra fee for enjoying the show.
