Hi everyone, I hope you got to go to this years Disney’s festival of the masters art show 2011 at downtown Disney and the west side. I went Friday, beautiful day and not too crowded.

I got to see many of the same artist that I saw last year, but there was plenty of new ones too. I was a bit hesitant to take pictures this year because a lot of artist don’t want pictures taken of their work.

That’s because many competitors try to copy others work. Or if you have paintings, some people take good quality pictures of them and turn around and sell them online, ouch!

Once again it’s almost Thanksgiving day! Many people ask what is going on at Walt Disney World during Thanksgiving day, November 24th. To be honest there really is nothing special that takes place at Disney on that day.

Contrary to what some have heard there is NO special Thanksgiving day parade at any of the Disney theme parks. There may be one over at Disneyland in California, but not here in Orlando.

Of course Thanksgiving day does fall right in the middle of the Holiday season. In the past Disney would put up all the Christmas decorations the night after Thanksgiving day, or the weekend following it.

If your an art fan, then you don’t want to miss the Disney Festival of the Masters 2011 art show at Downtown Disney! This amazing outdoor art show will showcase all kinds of top artist from around the world.

By artist I don’t mean just paintings, although there will be plenty there. But also you will see glass blowers, sculptors, clay art, many types of woodworking, specialty art of all kinds and many other wonderful art mediums on display.

The Disney Festival of the Masters art show is one of my favorite shows, I always go and take lots of pictures. This year it will be from November 11, 2011 To November 13, 2011.

New Avatar Land being built at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park

Disney building new Avatar land at Animal Kingdom

For all you Avatar fans out there, Disney is planning something monumental, just for you. It’s Avatar Land! Avatar Land will be located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and construction will begin in 2013.

It’s scheduled to open to the public in 2016. Disney recently retained the rights to use the Avatar theme, and they include not just the rights to the original film, but also to the sequels that are planned for 2014 and 2015.

The first Avatar Land completed will be at Orlando’s Disney World, but eventually, all the Disney parks worldwide will include Avatar attractions.

Disney World’s Spectacle of Dancing Lights has an interesting history. It began in Arkansas with an all-American family, the Osbornes, who decided to add some holiday magic to their community by decorating their home with numerous lights.

Disney Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Golf Classic

If you’d like to see some world-class golf and support a great cause at the same time, plan on attending the Disney Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals golf Classic, held on October 20, 21, 22, and 23, 2011. The tournament will be played on the Magnolia Golf Course and the Palm Golf Course, both of which are Walt Disney World championship venues.

Part of the PGA Tour, this exciting event has a history of featuring some of the world’s top golfers, including Jack Nicklaus, Payne Stewart, Vijay Singh, and the legendary Tiger Woods. The competition will be fierce and the stakes will be high, with hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money.

These are beautiful golf courses, and Disney has some special treatment in store for spectators of the event. On the back nine of the Magnolia Course, guests can enjoy the Wine and Dine Walk. Here, the Disney World resort chefs will be offering food and wine at five different stations, each with a commanding view of the action.

Now that fall is here there are lots of special events going on at the Disney theme parks. One of the most popular ones is the Disney Mickey’s not so scary Halloween party for 2011!

What could be more exciting for a kid than dressing up, trick-or-treating, and visiting Disney World – all at the same time? It’s all possible at Mickey’s Not-so-Scary Halloween Party! The event is the fun type of spooky, and not the kind that’s full of blood and gore, so it’s great for all ages.

In fact it’s one of the best Halloween parties for very young ones because it’s not scary at all, and has their favorite Disney characters all around to make them happy.

Well everyone, looks like the next time you play some golf on one of Disney’s golf courses, they really are not Disney’s anymore. Seems as thought with many other golf courses around the area it’s not as profitable anymore for Disney.

At least not as profitable as they want to be for the time they put into them. So they are turning over the day to day operations over to the Arnold Palmer Group management company.

Yes that is the same famous Palmer golf player. It will be Disney’s 5 golf courses; the Palm, Magnolia, Lake Buena Vista, Osprey Ridge and Oak Trail golf courses.

Disney’s Pleasure Island makeover stalled again

For many locals here in Orlando, Disney’s Pleasure Island used to be a great place to go for late night adult entertainment. They had several cool nightclubs to go to and good restaurants.

Mannequins nightclub (not sure if I spelled that right) was very cool with live dancers, two floors and a revolving dance floor. When I worked 3rd shift at Disney I use to go there before my shift and hang out a lot.

Disney closed Pleasure Island a few years ago, the reason they gave was that is was not making enough and it did not fit their family friendly theme. Actually they closed the clubs; you can still walk through the area and a few small shops are still open.

The Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

The Great Movie Ride is located on Hollywood Boulevard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park. The attraction is for all ages, with no height requirements, although some of the action might be too intense for small children. It’s an indoor attraction that explores the history of movies and Tinsel Town.

The attraction begins as guests enter a life-size model of the famous Grauman’s Chinese Theater. In the lobby, you’ll be able to view the actual props and costumes from famous movies.

These might include a dress from Shakespeare in Love, the ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, Indiana Jones’ machete, or a carousel horse from Mary Poppins.
